When the Garelochhead Training Estate needed shelter for military personnel during adverse weather, Aroha Escapes designed, manufactured and delivered four bespoke training PODs to remote locations on site. The project required innovative logistics, specialist transport and bespoke foundation design in a challenging rural environment.
Commissioned by Landmarc Support Services and the Ministry of Defence, Aroha Escapes designed and manufactured four robust training PODs for the Garelochhead Training Estate. Each unit was built in our Ayrshire workshop and installed across remote locations within the live military training environment.
Challenges
Remote Location
Each POD was installed in isolated areas with limited access, requiring specialist transport and off-road vehicles.
Live Training Environment
Installation activities had to be coordinated around active military exercises and troop movements.
Ground Conditions
Rocky terrain prevented the use of planned ground screws, requiring an alternative foundation solution.
No Utilities
The remote locations had no power supply, requiring generators and self-sufficient working methods.
Site Logistics
Working far from suppliers and support services required extensive planning and contingency preparation.
The Solution
Through close collaboration with Landmarc, Aroha Escapes adapted the foundation design to suit challenging ground conditions. Off-road vehicles accessed remote locations, and off-site manufacture minimised installation time. Careful coordination ensured all four units were delivered and installed safely within a live military training estate.
The Result
Four durable, low-maintenance training PODs were successfully delivered and installed on schedule across the estate. The completed buildings provide reliable shelter for military personnel during training exercises and continue to perform effectively in a demanding outdoor environment.
